In this exclusive interview, Ms.Utsav Khamboj shares valuable facts that highlight the firm’s stronghold in the advancing business arena.
How does your brand uniquely define its approach to creating visionary and innovative interior spaces?
The three of us have a distinct approach to design. However, we find common ground in our intent to create spaces that prioritise user well-being and comfort. Each of us brings a unique perspective to the table, which enhances the quality of our projects. For example, I am someone who designs in sync with the energies of nature.
Also, I have a thing for minimalism. On the other hand, Pragya correlates architecture with the principles of art. Meanwhile, Unnatt likes to design spaces using cosmic harmony. Such varied interests allow us to keep innovating with every new project.
What are the core values and principles that guide your leadership in shaping your brand’s identity and direction?
We think there’s no hierarchy in creative fields. So, our brainstorming sessions are open discussions where every team member gets an opportunity to share their ideas. Also, we are more focused on the output rather than the number of hours people clock in. It helps us build accountability in the team’s mind. Plus, effective communication and feedback allows us to direct the team in the right direction.
Could you share some of the significant challenges your brand has faced in the interior design market, and how you successfully overcame them?
People think of interior design as a product or commodity rather than a service. And this is an industry-wide issue. So, as a brand, we like to distinguish ourselves by creating design awareness. We use social media to share design knowledge and add value to people’s lives. This helps us communicate the kind of effort and energy that goes into bringing a project to life. And, when people see that, it’s easier to navigate client meetings.
In a competitive industry, how does your brand stay ahead of trends and continually push the boundaries of interior design?
I would say upscaling is the answer. Nowadays, there are new materials, technologies, and innovations almost every other day. So, we get our dose of knowledge from various sources like news, design platforms, and publications. Also, I attend a lot of exhibitions to explore materials and get a perspective on global design trends.
I think continuous learning is the only way to stay relevant in the industry for a long time. That is the intent with which I founded Archea; an upskilling platform for architects and interior designers. Alongside practical courses, Archea also offers an independent business program to help designers launch and scale their firm.
How do you ensure that your brand’s designs resonate with clients while also staying true to its creative vision?
We always design for exclusivity. No two projects in our portfolio look the same, which is why clients often tell us that the space we design for them resonates with their unique personality. Therefore, we do not have a signature design style, which helps us avoid repetition of design elements.
We create spaces that are specific to the needs of every client without much prejudice regarding design styles or trends. This ensures that the clients get what they want, while we get an opportunity to continuously innovate and challenge our creative minds.
How does your brand plan to adapt to future shifts in design preferences and technological advancements in the industry?
We are fully committed to embracing technology. At our studio, we constantly explore ways to integrate AI tools for design presentations and visualisation. We also like to streamline all our clients and team communications through digital channels that provide real-time updates. In the near future, we are keen on exploring BIM for project management and execution.
What are your brand’s primary goals for the coming years, and how do you envision its role in shaping the future of architecture & interior design?
In the next five years, we want to diversify our portfolio beyond residential spaces and enrich the lives of people on a larger scale- from interiors to urban design.
We want to create inclusive spaces where every living being (irrespective of where they come from) feels a sense of blissfulness and belongingness to the spaces we design.
What advice would you offer to aspiring interior designers aiming to build a successful and impactful brand?
Firstly, I would say believe in yourself. Believe the fact that you are worthy of the kind of projects, money and clients that you aspire to work with. Self-confidence is going to be your strongest ally in a field like interior design, which often tests your patience, adaptability, and resilience. Also, learn to enjoy the process because building a career in design is not an overnight process; it’s a lifelong journey. So, keep learning and be fearless when trying new things.
