Architecture studio Foster + Partners has unveiled the design for a striking supertall skyscraper in Miami, set to become the new headquarters for hedge fund Citadel. The 54-story tower, located at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, will stand 1,032 feet (314 meters) tall, making it a prominent addition to the city’s skyline.
Developed by Gattuso Development Partners, the skyscraper is part of a larger mixed-use development that will also include offices, hotels, and retail spaces. Positioned adjacent to the Miami South Channel, the tower will be accompanied by additional developments slightly inland at 1221 Brickell Avenue and 1250-1260 Brickell Bay Drive.
The Foster + Partners-designed skyscraper will feature approximately 34 floors of office space, with the upper levels dedicated to 212 hotel rooms. The tower’s design includes a tapered form with rounded corners, culminating in a flat, rectangular cap that flares outward at the top. The exterior will be clad in white with thin horizontal louvres under each floor plate, drawing inspiration from Florida’s vernacular architecture.
Nigel Dancey, head of studio at Foster + Partners, described the tower as a unified structure that seamlessly integrates its various functions while serving as an elegant landmark on the Miami skyline. “An environmentally responsive facade draws on Florida’s vernacular architecture, with a louvred shading system to create a comfortable internal environment while maximizing views from this prime location,” Dancey noted.
Citadel, which relocated its headquarters from Chicago to Miami in 2022, will serve as the anchor tenant. The building will feature column-free office spaces designed to foster collaboration, as well as conference rooms, a ballroom, fitness facilities, a pool, and a spa.
The surrounding area will be enhanced with tiered planting beds and a public walking path connecting the building to the waterfront, designed by landscape architecture studio Field Operations. Ground-level restaurants will further contribute to the vibrant streetscape.
Citadel has announced plans to break ground on the project in 2025. “The development of this iconic, world-class tower at 1201 Brickell will redefine the Miami skyline and solidify the city as a global destination for professionals, businesses, and culture,” Citadel stated.
This skyscraper is one of several new developments in the area, joining projects by renowned studios such as SOM, SHoP, and Studio Sofield. Miami’s skyline is also seeing an influx of branded skyscrapers from luxury fashion and automotive companies, including a Dolce & Gabbana supertall and a Bentley-branded tower.
